Choreographer Larry Keigwin and his company, KEIGWIN + COMPANY, will begin development of a new work, tentatively titled Balloon Dance, while in residence at Vineyard Arts Project.  Using sculptor Jason Hackenwerth's whimsical, otherworldly balloon designs as an inspirational launching point, movement will reflect a sense of whimsy and playfulness as seven dancers explore camouflage and concealment. New music will be composed by Adam Crystal. Balloon Dance will premiere at Works & Process at the Guggenheim in New York  in October 2011.

Keigwin + Company

Keigwin + Company:

Founded in 2003 by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin and former Associate Artistic Director Nicole Wolcott, Keigwin + Company creates and presents Keigwin's electrifying brand of contemporary dance. K+C reaches national and international audiences and invigorates diverse communities with a refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sensibility of wit, style, and heart. Community projects seek to physically engage audiences in movement and the choreographic process, and bring new opportunities for individuals to become more invested in dance. Since K+C's premiere performance at Joyce Soho, Keigwin has created 16 dances, including the large-scale choreographic event Bolero and recent acclaimed works such as Runaway (2008), the site-specific Sidewalk (2009) and Bird Watching (2010). Following the world premiere of Dark Habits at The Joyce Theater in March 2011, K+C looks forward to sharing its work with audiences throughout the coming year at Bowdoin College, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Green Box Arts Festival, Vineyard Arts Project, and later this fall, presenting a world premiere at Works & Process at the Guggenheim.

Over the past eight years, K+C has presented performances throughout NYC and nationwide at venues including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Summerdance Santa Barbara, New York City Center, The Joyce Theater, the American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, and more. K+C has received grants and generous support from National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the American Music Center Live Music for Dance Program, The Greenwall Foundation, The O'Donnell-Green Music & Dance Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, The Christian Keesee Charitable Trust, Dianne & Daniel Vapnek Family Fund, and the Royce Family Fund.
