Benjamin Millepied's Danses Concertantes

November 8-23, 2008

“Choreography that is deft in structure, never pushing its score too far.  Serious yet light in touch, and illuminated at every moment…”

The Financial Times, September 26, 2002

As part of the new generation of the world’s most compelling choreographers, Benjamin Millepied’s work incorporates a fiery mix of contemporary and classical style.  Mr. Millepied’s chamber ensemble, Danses Concertantes, featuring eleven dancers from American Ballet Theatre and two acclaimed pianists, Pedja Muzijevic and Natasha Paremski, will be in residence at Vineyard Arts Project for two weeks in preparation for their upcoming season at New York’s Joyce Theatre, running December 9-14, 2008.  Since 2002, the company has presented work in London, New York, Sag Harbor, Lyon and Stockholm.  The repertoire for the upcoming season will include original choreography by Benjamin Millepied, classic pieces by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, and new work from Andonis Foniadakis, Aszure Barton and Luca Veggetti.

James Lapine's

Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing

Starring Tony Winner Debra Monk

August 31- October 5, 2008

MRS. MILLER DOES HER THING is set in 1966, in the midst of the Vietnam War and the beginnings of the counter-culture movement; when an off-pitch, matronly 59 year old singer suddenly emerges at the top of the music charts winning fame as the worst pop singer of all time. Loosely based on the life of Elva Miller, this is a surprisingly contemporary look at pop culture and the public’s fleeting fancy with the novelty of the moment.
